Blue Lobster

I just thought this was kinda cool. Blue lobsters are missing a pigment. This would look very neat in an aquarium.

A blue lobster landed in North Rustico Wednesday.

Apparently this occurs on average of one time per 4 million lobsters. Unfortunately they turn pink upon cooking which means you will never get one on your plate (it's considered bad luck to cook them anyways).
The cbc has more on this if you are interested.

  1. Kind of albino among lobsters? And a beautiful combination of colours. Reminds of Barnett Newman: Red, yellow and blue IV ( well, not yellow actually :))

  2. I can only imagine the surprise on the fishermans face when he opened the pot. Apparently there are true albino white lobsters out there with no pigment at all - that would pretty cool as well.

  3. I wonder whether or not they taste better that the normal ones.
    I love lobsters.

  4. I suppose they would taste the same. Something for the bucket list anyway.
